Neurodevelopmental Screen

What are Neurodevelopmental disorders?

Neurodevelopmental disorders (NDD) include ADHD, Autism and learning disabilities. These difficulties begin in childhood, and often continue into adult life. NDDs commonly co-occur in people, and it is thought that up to 1 in 10 people may have some form of NDD

There is an overlap of symptoms between conditions such as autism and ADHD. Perhaps you are not sure if one, or both of these assessments is right for you? The ND screen will help point you in the right direction.

Autism and ADHD assessments can be costly and time consuming. The ND screen is a cost and time-effective way of pointing you in the right direction.

Autism, ADHD and other NDDs lie on a spectrum. Perhaps you have some concerns about behavioural traits, but you are not sure if this is significant enough to warrant a diagnosis or a further assessment? The ND screen could help rule out these diagnoses, or give guidance on whether, an autism or ADHD assessment may be required.

Pathway information

1

Pre-assessment questionnaires

Before your Neurodevelopmental Screening, we will ask you to complete some questionnaires asking you about common indicators of neurodevelopmental difference. It is also useful to get some information from a parent about your behaviour in childhood. If this is not possible for any reason, do not worry, the assessment can still proceed.

2

Neurodevelopmental screening assessment

Your ND screen will be conducted by a specialist clinician, and will take 55-minutes. This will include a focused review of your current difficulties, and how they may have developed since your childhood years.

Your clinician will also consider any other problems that you may have with your mental and physical health, and will ask you about important relationships, and your experiences of education and employment, in order to gain a clear understanding of you as a person.

3

Feedback and recommendations

At the end of your assessment, your clinician will spend some time feeding back their opinion and recommendations. The ND screen cannot be used to make a diagnosis, but your clinician will give a clear opinion on what further, if any, assessments may be required. This may include recommendations for an autism, ADHD or combined autism and ADHD assessment. Your clinician may recommend assessment or treatment of mental health problems, such as depression or anxiety.
