What is ADHD?

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity disorder, or ADHD is characterised by hyperactivity, impulsivity or inattention, or by a combination of all three of these.

A diagnostic ADHD assessment will explore signs and symptoms of ADHD, their length, along with the impact on a person’s general level of functioning. 

What are the Symptoms of ADHD?

The symptoms of ADHD are varied and can be completely individual to you. It’s not a one-size-fits-all. Common symptoms are as follows:

Inattention

This may include making careless mistakes, difficulty sustaining attention, forgetfulness, misplacing or losing objects, and difficulties following through with tasks.

Hyperfocus

Hyperfocus is a state of extreme and uninterrupted concentration on a particular task or activity. This are usually tasks that are interesting to you, during hyperfocus you may struggle to lose track of everything else happening around you. 

Hyperactivity/Impulsivity

This may include fidgeting e.g. biting nails, playing with your hair etc., physical restlessness, racing thoughts, difficulties relaxing, struggling with social situations e.g. turn taking, or acting impulsively e.g. financially, job-hopping, making big life decisions.

Emotional Dysregulation

This may include mood swings, irritability, sensitivity to criticism, quick temper, low self-esteem, and and inability to manage stress.

We offer diagnostic ADHD assessments for clients aged over 18. Determining whether a diagnostic ADHD assessment is right for you can be challenging. Try our free ADHD quiz to help you decide if they may benefit from a formal assessment. For clients aged 6-18 years, please visit our children’s assessment service, Young Wellbeing Hub.

The diagnostic ADHD assessment is conducted by a qualified clinician online, via Microsoft Teams. In this appointment, if appropriate, the clinician will discuss the outcome of the assessment.

There are no specific pre-requisites for a diagnostic ADHD assessment, however all clients must fulfil our inclusion criteria. Therefore, please ensure you have reviewed our inclusion and exclusion criteria and are happy to proceed to the next stage. These can be found on our dedicated FAQs.
