General Assessment

Mental health is a vital part of overall well-being, influencing how we think, feel, and function in daily life. It plays a central role in relationships, work, and our ability to cope with challenges.

Adults can experience a wide range of mental health conditions, which may affect each person differently. Recognising and addressing these issues with the right support is key to building resilience and improving quality of life.

At Harley Street ADHD, our experienced clinicians provide compassionate, confidential care tailored to the individual needs of adults experiencing mental health challenges.

THE DETAILS

Assessment information

We offer comprehensive mental health assessments lasting either 55 minutes or 85 minutes, depending on your preference and needs. A longer appointment might be recommended if:

  • You’re dealing with multiple mental health conditions
  • You have physical health problems alongside mental health concerns
  • You have a history of psychiatric care (inpatient or outpatient)
1
Pre-assessment questionnaires

Prior to your assessment, we will ask you to complete some questionnaires detailing mental health symptoms that you may be experiencing.

2
General mental health assessment

You will then meet with your clinician for a General Mental Health Assessment (lasting either 55 or 85 minutes depending on your preference and needs). Each assessment involves a detailed exploration of your current symptoms and how they affect different areas of your life, including your emotional well-being, physical health, relationships, work, or education. Your clinician will also take the time to understand significant events from your childhood and earlier life, helping to identify how these experiences may relate to your current challenges.

At the end of your assessment, your clinician will provide you with a clear diagnosis and a personalised treatment plan. This may include lifestyle recommendations, psychological therapy, medication options, and follow-up appointments to monitor your progress and adjust the plan as needed.

3
Assessment report

We understand the importance of timely feedback. Our detailed assessment reports are typically completed within three weeks of your appointment. If you need confirmation of diagnosis sooner, a diagnosis letter can be provided within one week.

Mental health medication support

Following a diagnosis, your clinician will support you through a personalised treatment plan delivered over a series of 25-minute appointments. You’ll receive clear, comprehensive information about the potential benefits and side effects of medication, empowering you to make informed decisions about your treatment.

The timings of the appointments can be flexible, to suit your needs. At each treatment appointment your clinician will carefully review your response to medication and monitor for side effects and tailor your treatment accordingly. The clinician’s aim will be to safely and efficiently find a medication and dosing regimen that works for you.

Long term care

If your mental health improves with treatment, your clinician may suggest discharge back to your general practitioner (GP). Alternatively, if your mental health difficulties are more long-standing or complex, further appointments may be offered to support your care over a longer period of time. Your clinician, with your consent, will always liaise closely with your GP about any changes in treatment.

We understand the importance of cost-effective care. It will be your clinician’s aim to move your care to a shared care agreement as soon as you are stabilised on medication for a period of time. Our clinicians ensure that their treatment plans follow NICE guidelines and are experienced in the requirements for successful shared care agreements.

Shared care agreements take place between a specialist clinician and a GP. Typically, the NHS GP takes responsibility for prescribing the medication, and the specialist clinician conducts a treatment review each year. Shared care agreements help to reduce the cost for ongoing pharmacological treatment, by reducing the prescription costs to the NHS rate.
